Bone Marrow Aspiration for 2015
It is school holidays and the day has arrived for Stefan to have his annual bone marrow aspiration.
We arrived at Unitas at 6AM this morning not looking forward to the day ahead. For Stefan today was nothing out of the ordinary and he was very calm and relaxed. He made friends with another little boy named Christiaan while we completed the paperwork for the procedure.
When the time came a drip was inserted and again he had no issues with this at all, a brave little man he is!!

The doctor gave him a different sedative this time around. The last time we went for the procedure we had to hold him down because he was aware of what was going on although he could not remember anything after it was completed.
This time it was much better and he was out for the count!!

The first aspiration was performed but the doctor felt that the samples did not have adequate fragments for analysis.

They did it a second time just in case the first was not correct. Ouch, two in one go, I felt so sorry for my boy.

It took him about an hour after the aspiration to be fully aware of what was going on around him..
This was also the first time that he became sick after. His system did not react well to the new drug that was administered. He will go sleep it off at home now.

We are proud of you my boy, you are so strong. You are teaching us all about being positive and not letting your situation get you down in any way. Now we will wait for the results and take it from there, one step at a time.
